The Radiant Fashionista Part II: Toners & Serums
Good morning ladies! So excited to share our next post from 'The Radiant Fashionista', with guest blogger Sara Meyer, La Chele Medical Aesthetics Marketing & Retail Specialist and Licensed Esthetician. It has been a long week (at least for us!) and our skin definitely feels it! This week Ms. Meyer will guide a discussion on toners and serums - and how they can help you achieve healthier, younger looking and more radiant skin! So, lets get started! If you all remember, last Sunday we discussed the first two steps in morning skin care. The first is making sure you properly cleanse your skin. The second is effectively exfoliating. [You can view last week's post here - Morning Regimen: Cleansers & Exfoliators.] This week we are introducing step three: toner application. According to Ms. Meyer, "The purpose of using a toner is to restore the pH balance of your skin. Toner application also helps minimize the appearance of pores - essentially preparing your skin for make-up application. Applying toner to your skin is essential if you want your make-up to look smooth and long-lasting. You should choose your toner based on two things: 1) your over all skin type (i.e. oily, dry, etc.) and 2) to address any dermatological issues you may have such as hyper-pigmentation, acne, or with skin that looks slightly aged." Some favorite toners and their specific uses are listed below: Dior Purifying Toning Lotion This toner is designed for normal skin. So if you don't have any skin sensitivities and you aren't looking to address any dermatological issues this is a great toner for you. Dior Gentle Toning Lotion For ladies out there with more sensitive or dry skin this toner is the way to go. This toner will leave your skin feeling fresh, smooth and most importantly moisturized. The toner is rich in hydrating molecules and will not only clean and refresh your skin but will also give you that delightful tingly feeling of skin that is moisturized and comfortable. Obagi Nu-Derm Toner Ladies with normal to oily skin... This toner is for you! The Obagi Nu-Derm Toner is well known for being alcohol-free and non-drying. The toner gently removes excess oil and impurities without stripping your skin of vital moisture. Sage and witch hazel offer astringent benefits to tone and purify while borage extract and aloe vera calm and sooth for a comfortable feel and healthy, revitalized and radiant look. Hydropeptide Pre-Treatment Toner This toner is designed for anti-aging and helps to exfoliate while also brightening and evening out skin tone. It is comprised of lactic acid, triple action peptides and orange stem cells. If you follow the link and head over to the hydropeptide website; all the different peptides incorporated are listed, along with a detailed description of citrustem (the stem cells derived from oranges) and its benefits. I personally use this toner and love it! Now, once you have completed step three in your morning skincare regimen it is onto step four - serum! Serums are products capable of penetrating into deeper layers of the skin, where moisturizers cannot reach. They have high concentrations of active substances that fight anti-aging at the core level of the skin. A daily serum that caters to your skins concerns (anti-aging, hyperpigmentation, brightening, etc.) is a great way to correct and prevent damage from the inside out. When choosing a serum, make sure that you are using something that nourishes with antioxidants as well as vitamin C. Vitamin C plays a vital role in reducing the damage caused by the sun's rays. Some of my favorite serums are listed below! Make sure to follow the links to learn more about the products and which ones are best suited for your skin type!
