My Easter Best

My Easter Best

Scene: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

At LILA Fashion International, we'll find any excuse to celebrate. We especially love a good holiday. Over the years, some have stood out in our minds more than others. Growing up in the Middle East and in Europe, celebrating Orthodox Easter was particularly memorable.

In Riyadh, that involved playing hooky from school - you can imagine why we looked forward to the holiday with such relish - and receiving Easter baskets filled with chocolate-covered chicks and other goodies. We'd then dress in our Easter best and celebrate at a massive gathering of Greeks and Cypriots on a neighboring compound (similar to a closed community for foreigners), where we'd drink, feast and dance with friends for the entire day. In Athens, the holiday involved a beautiful spring picnic in our grandmother's garden with our relatives, just around the time when the flowers would begin to bloom, and the warmth of the sun on skin truly felt like a reawakening. And as for the delicious Greek food, that was an opportunity to reconnect with our faith.

We have the fondest memories of dyeing eggs red, eating sweet bread and indulging in our all-time favorite Greek dish – lamb and oven-roasted fingerling potatoes! Aside from the savory food, traditional Greek desserts and spending time with family, Easter was also an opportunity to indulge in some spring shopping. For the occasion, we'd always grab something lovely, romantic, and of course, floral. And also pair it with a great layering piece, should the day be chillier than expected.

This year, we decided to get a had start on our Easter outfits,  and came up with the sweetest combination of pieces that can be worn again through spring and well into the summer season.

Our Easter outfit pick this year features the sweet Flora Dress, with it's cool blue color (perfect for transitioning out of the winter blues) and statement blush blossoms, making it a sweetly appropriate garment for welcoming spring. The dress features a crew neck, full-length sleeves and a cinched waist, so it's incredibly flattering on all figures!

There is nothing more flattering than a girl that knows how to accent her curves… So we paired this dress with a muted belt to give the illusion of an hour-glass shape. So as not to detract from the subtle floral blossoms of the dress we also paired it with a nude cross body bag that matches the belt but doesn't draw attention away from the overall look.

If the day is on the cooler side, throw on some deep ox blood leggings and a velvet coat like the Prairie Coat, pictured below, and you are Easter-ready. In warmer weather, feel free to lose the leggings and the red velvet coat and add a little more pizazz to the look by styling your hair in a messy ponytail with a pair of statement earrings.

It's important to remember that the pieces that make up this look are statement pieces that can be styled together or separately - this allows for you to get A LOT more use out of them. It is pieces such as these that make for great investments, as they can be styled season to season and in transitional weather. All for now. xo
