Denim Habit

Denim Habit

There's something about the denim jacket. It may rise and fall out of favor, privy to the whims of the sartorial set who decide the fate of fashion huddled behind closed doors on the 50-some floor of Manhattan's towering skyscrapers. But the denim jacket always comes back. Fashion is cyclical like that. The cut may be shorter or edgier. The style may be bolder, more embellished, washed out, youthful...you name it.  But it reinvents itself every time. A reflection of the times, it tells us where we've been, and where we're going.

Lucky for me, I've always been a fan of the denim jacket. Regardless of whether it's trending or not. I've had this particular denim jacket for over half a decade (it's an oldie but a goodie!) and I'm nowhere near getting rid of it. Parting with pieces from my closet has always been a challenge. And though I have no qualms with decluttering the spaces in my apartment (I'm a minimalist in more ways than one), my closet is a different story. For some reason, I just can't seem to let go.

I particularly love denim, because its great for transitional weather, can be easily layered, and looks pretty darn good with just about anything. As the weather gets cooler, I often opt to pair my denim jacket with skinny jeans or in this case, a maxi dress, for a look that is casual cool. Jewelry is of course always in order (I chose to style a piece from the LILA Luxe Collection) and as for my sandals - I plan to wear these beauties through late September... unless the Philly chill gets to me first!

I'm also a huge proponent of denim on denim, which is also quite seasonally appropriate. Try pairing your denim jacket with denim skinnies or a mini and booties. Alternatively, swap your jacket for a button-down you can loosely tuck in to the front of your jeans. The heavier material of the denim will keep you warm, and depending on the chill factor, you can easily add or remove layers for extra insulation.  And if I haven't said enough good things, you'll see.  The denim habit is hard to break.
